Have a team with three 4th graders, six 5th graders and one 6th grader. Playing in a 5th/6th league.
Any drills to teach the kids how to keep track of their man and still pay attention to where the ball is?

I think this is something that you have to build into all of your defensive drills.
Something simple I teach when you are off the ball is to POINT to both the ball and their man. This way is simple yet effective.
Hope this helps,

in addition to pointing your pistols, I also think that you have to teach players to focus on a point between their man and the ball. I have heard keep your head on a swivel but I disagree with that approach. I think you have to use your perepheral vision to see both. If you are in hard denial one pass away, I teach players to look at the ball and see their man with their perepheral. If they are more than two passes away, then they have to see both man and ball with perepheral.
